Denver Chamber Music Camp at Colorado Academy (Entering Grades 4-12)

Denver Chamber Music Camp is open to strings playing students of all ages who are at the following playing levels:
Violin: Suzuki Book 4 or Equivalent
Viola: Suzuki Book 2 or Equivalent
Cello: Suzuki Book 3 or Equivalent
Students also need to have basic music-reading skills. A day at chamber camp includes a coaching session with your assigned chamber ensemble; an enrichment class, including theory, ear training, music history, and more; and orchestra. The orchestra plays everything from Bach to Rock and will perform all these different genres at the final concert on Friday, July 14. All parents and friends are invited. All classes are taught by Denver professional musicians.

The Jewelry Box (Entering Grades 5-9)

Focus on the tools and techniques you need to make jewelry, including beading using stone beads, making beads using Fimo clay, and glass fusion to create beautiful pendants and earrings. We’ll also spend a day creating a charm bracelet using Shrinky Dinks. Lastly, each artist will hand paint their own jewelry box.

Come experiment with cold water dyes! Learn how to create traditional tie-dye spirals as well as a variety of shinobi folding, tying and clamping techniques. Campers are encouraged to bring specialty items provided they are 100% cotton, for example: sheets, pillow cases, special sized tee shirts and socks.

Watercolor Collage Paintings (Entering Grades 3-9)

Create a collage to make a watercolor painting using various watercolor techniques. Focus on imagery isolation within the art of collage, emphasis in art, and how to create a dynamic composition. Learn various watercolor techniques such as dry on wet, and wet on wet, washes, color blending and gradients, lifting, layering, and dry brushing. Your creation will be 12”x12”.

Colorado Ballet’s creative movement dance camp is designed for students to study a variety of dance concepts such as size, balance, rhythm, levels, shapes, and energy. In addition to dance, students will also work on developing important life skills such as problem solving, spatial awareness, social and emotional learning, and strengthening the body and brain all through the art of dance. Dancers will work together to create their own dances to show off at the end of the week!

This week-long camp with Colorado Ballet will bring Broadway to Denver! Students will explore a variety of songs and dance as they learn the basics and beyond in this musical theater dance camp. Students will be introduced to jazz skills such as kicks, turns, and leaps, and finish class with a combination in the style of Musical Theatre dance featuring music from some of your favorite Broadway shows!

This Colorado Ballet class will take students through the four pillars of Hip Hop and try this popular street style of dance that includes isolations, popping/locking, breaking, whacking, vogueing, and more. Dancers will gain strength, coordination and an increased sense of rhythm and confidence through movement. Dancers are encouraged to bring their own style and individuality this week - that's what Hip Hop is all about!

Is your little ninja ready to learn kicks, break boards, learn forms, safely use weapons and have fun? This martial arts camp will teach the basics of taekwondo. They will learn some Korean, self-defense and play games. On Friday students have the opportunity to test their skills and progress from white belt to yellow belt. Kids who have taken this camp before can test to the next higher level. Taught by a black belt instructor.
